LexCapital<\/strong><\/a>is proud\u00a0to have participated<\/strong>, as a speaker at the\u00a0Conference on\u00a0<\/a>\u00a0Sustaining Access to Justice in Europe<\/strong>, held on\u00a019 – 20 October<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Organised by the\u00a0Erasmus University<\/a>\u00a0Rotterdam<\/strong>, and in particular by the\u00a0NWO team of the Vici Project Access to Justice<\/strong>, the event is one of the most interesting, internationally, on the\u00a0topic of access to justice<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Key figures<\/strong>\u00a0from the worlds of politics, academia and business, together with consumer associations from Europe, the USA and Asia, discussed\u00a0problems and developments concerning access to justice in Europe<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

In particular, how it is\u00a0facilitated by new forms of litigation funding<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Conference on Sustaining Access to Justice in Europe: the event<\/h2>\n

The event, held in the form of a\u00a0symposium<\/strong>, was attended by\u00a0influential figures from civil society and the intellectual world<\/strong>, also dedicated to\u00a0exploring new forms of litigation funding<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Particular attention<\/strong>\u00a0was paid to forms such as\u00a0Crowdfunding<\/strong>,\u00a0third-party support<\/strong>\u00a0in litigation (Litigation Funding<\/a>) and Class Actions.<\/p>\n

The main topic of debate?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Improving the mechanisms for access to civil justice<\/strong>, with the aim of making the process\u00a0smoother and fairer<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Our COO, Giuseppe Farchione<\/strong>, took part in the\u00a0panel “Altruistic Ventures: Balance, Profitability and Social Impact – Myth or Reality”<\/strong>, to discuss the\u00a0right balance to be pursued<\/strong>, also in Litigation Funding,\u00a0between profitability and a positive social impact<\/strong>, in parallel with traditional “for profit” activities.<\/p>\n

The\u00a0basic question<\/strong>\u00a0is whether\u00a0litigation driven by fair and altruistic goals<\/strong>, in today’s society, is a\u00a0fact or mere utopia<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Access to Justice in Europe<\/h3>\n

The topic of\u00a0facilitating Access to Justice<\/strong>\u00a0in Europe is\u00a0widely debated<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Access to the court system<\/strong>, without particular obstacles and limitations, is the\u00a0only avenue open to citizens wishing to assert their rights<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

However,\u00a0in Europe<\/strong>,\u00a0government cutbacks and the exorbitant costs of court proceedings<\/strong>\u00a0have made access to certain avenues of justice\u00a0increasingly unequal<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

In this context,\u00a0financial (and organisational) support<\/strong>\u00a0has shifted from the\u00a0public to the private sphere<\/strong>, making it possible for companies and citizens to seek\u00a0support from third parties<\/strong>, through\u00a0Social Impact Litigation Funding<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

LexCapital<\/strong>, which, since its\u00a0recent launch<\/strong>, has been dedicated to\u00a0improving the justice mechanism<\/strong>\u00a0through its\u00a0Litigation Funding<\/strong>\u00a0activity, was delighted to bring its experience to the Conference on Sustaining Access to Justice in Europe.<\/p>\n

At the event, we\u00a0focused in particular on two aspects<\/strong>:\u00a0Civil Rights and Litigation Funding<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0Support for Non-Profit Organisations<\/strong>\u00a0by Litigation Funders.<\/p>\n
